New Vintage Release: 2021 Eluvium

We are delighted to share the release of our 2021 Eluvium—a wine that embodies both the power and nuance of Virginia’s terroir. Recently awarded 91 points by James Suckling, this blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Petit Verdot was sourced from an array of premier mountainside vineyards, including Russ Mountain, Capstone, Shenandoah Springs and our own Quaker Run.

Winemaker’s Note

“Eluvium represents power, but with nuance. On the surface, the blend may seem straightforward, but the diversity of vineyard sites and resulting wines bring remarkable complexity. We balance Merlot with Petit Verdot, often noted for its boldness, but our approach highlights its aromatic and floral qualities alongside brooding, dense fruit. Sourced from mountainside sites, we pick our Petit Verdot based on flavor and balance, enhancing its ethereal qualities with whole cluster inclusion during fermentation to reveal a full range of aromas in the final blend.” - Maya Hood White. 

In the Vineyard

The Quaker Run Merlot, sourced from the East Block slope, is at the heart of Eluvium and contributes an aromatic density, textural depth, and fine-grain tannin that make it a standout wine and one of our winemaker’s personal favorites. With aromas of black stone fruits, dark berries, leather, dried herbs, and a hint of violets and fennel, the 2021 Eluvium offers a balanced, full-bodied experience with lively acidity and finely structured tannins. Aged for 18 months in French oak (40% new), the 2021 Eluvium is showing beautifully now and will continue to evolve with more time in your cellar.
