Wine Advocate, Virginia Retrospective, Issue 237 (June 2018)

Posted on July 31, 2018

We are thrilled to share coverage from The Wine Advocate's recent issue, including a 90 pt review for Eluvium 2015, from Mark Squires. Excerpted below:

The first vines were planted in 2005 by prior ownership. The current owners, Jean Case and husband Steve, purchased the property in 2010. In 2015, Early Mountain also acquired Quaker Run Vineyard, 14 miles north of the Early Mountain estate in Madison County. The style here is fresh and elegant—the wines all have mid-palate finesse and a sunny feel. They still need to improve, but I really liked the direction in which Early Mountain is going. These are wines you'll actually want to drink with food. Tag this winery with an "up" arrow and look for even better things in the future.

Mark Squire's reviewed the below items from Early Mountain:

  • Eluvium 2015 90 pts
  • War & Rust NV 90 pts
  • Novum 2015 89 pts
  • Petit Manseng 2016 89 pts
  • Quaker Run Chardonnay 2016 88 pts
  • Quaker Run Chardonnay 2015 88 pts
  • Quaker Run Cabernet Franc 2016 88 pts
  • Aylor 2014 88 pts
  • Chardonnay 2016 86 pts

Congratulations to Ben and the wine growing team!
